Can someone please explain why all questions and most configs have poeple choosing the 2.66 8 core over 2.26 8 core. Obviously, the 2.66 is faster, but how much? I've seen the Barefeats test and all, but it's not that clear to me.

I want a Mac Pro for video editing. Going to be using Adobe Premiere, since I am very familiar with the program over Final Cut. I am stuck on choosing the Quad 2.93 or the 8 2.26. But every time I read reviews or speed test, the 2.66 8 Core is discussed. Is 2.26 8 core no good? Should I go with 2.93 Quad?

I will also be using Photoshop, but mainly Premiere for video editing.

I will loading it up with as much RAM as I need, but in terms of speed and performance, which will be better?

2.26GHz is quite low clock speed nowadays, so if you're using an app that can't use all 8 cores, it'll be slower. I would get 2.66GHz octo if you can afford it, because it'll do whatever you want. Also, multiple cores are future, so within few years, all apps can use more than one or two cores. 2.26GHz is slower in many apps because they can't use 8 cores but clock speed matters.

The octo can take 32GB while the quad can only take 8GB a bit embarrasing considering the 2003 Powermac g5 could do that

Quad can unofficially take 16GB, Apple only offers 8GB.

There's a refurbished 8-core 3.2 in the store now, compare that at $3299 versus the $2999 (without any discount) for a new Quad 2.93... I'd get the 3.2 personally.
