2.5" bus-powered USB HD's ok with Airport Extreme N gigabit?

Just wondering if this would totally screw up my new Airport base station or not. If I were to get a portable external 2.5" and plug it into the Airport (these drives take power from the USB bus), would it work? I don't want to decrease the longevity of the airport or drive for that matter.

I used my 2.5" WD Passport for the time I had one of those spiffy routers. Now if Apple fixed the firmware so it would crap out after several gigabytes of file transfers I might still have it.

Really? Is this documented? I was planning on having a psuedo music-only storage drive connected to the APE, requiring me to transfer gigs of mp3s back and fourth.
