I 'm a student looking to buy a new macbook.
Is it worth spending an extra 160 pounds more on the macbook pro 2.66 over the standard 2.53

I 'm going to be using it for Photoshop, and alot of photo intensive applications, I 'm also aware that snow leopard will be using the GPU in GCD, would it be worth spending that 160?

thanks for advice + help in advance

You would mainly want the 2.66 for the discrete graphics chip. Since you are doing intensive photo applications, I suggest getting the 2.66. If you feel you don't need a discrete graphics chip, just get the 2.53 with the 9400M.

true, i think it will help,... but 160 extra quid for faster processor, extra graphics card, and 70 Gigs of hard drive space, even if it's not a necessity it's worth getting?

It is definitely worth getting the 2.66.

i would be careful with that, the processor upgrade really will only help by 5%, what percent of the price increse of the system is it?

the dedicated GPU is an advantage, however correct me if i'm wrong but photoshop doesn't utilize GPUs under OS X very well does it?

I think the latest version of Photoshop is GPU accelerated, so you'll see a speed boost.

yeah, well the main point is that for me as a student, it isn't that much more dosh, i get a free iPod touch too which would cover that cost when i sell it, but obv i 'd still be 160 down from the lower model.

would you pay 160 quid for an extra GPU 70 gigs, and faster CPU even if it wasn't 100% needed?

If you're serious about photography you actually don't need the SD slot, and the expresscard slot in the older generation would be better because you can get a CF card instead.

Anyhow you seem to be convinced that spending more money is not what you want to do.

The is question has nothing to do with referb models..
i dont care if they would be better or not.

I never said that i wasn't prepared to pay extra, in-fact i am more than prepared to pay the extra money. I 'm questioning if it would be beneficial to spend that little bit more, EVEN THOUGH IT MIGHT NOT BE 100% NECESSARY.

Thus proving my point that you've made up your mind. Why even ask the question?

Wow, that's the most ambiguous statement so far. You are prepared to pay extra, but it might not be worth it or necessary- so you need help deciding? Just flip a coin and be done with it.

I 've made my mind up that i would like to get the NEW unibody macbook. EITHER THE 2.53 OR 2.66 READ MY QUESTION. THE QUESTION HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE LAST GENERATION.

The only point that you've proved is that you have clearly struggled to understand my question.
I don't see why you find it so "ambiguous", other forum users have understood what i 'm asking perfectly, and have contributed some helpful advice.
If your not going to do so, go elsewhere.

Relax OP. Just get the 2.66Ghz MBP. I have the same model (SD card slot one right?) and I just played some games like Sims 3, Call of Duty, etc. The 9600M GT sure helps improve framerates.
