I've never had this issue before with any iPhones but when I use the 2.5x lens, it never seems to focus properly. I can try taking a pic in the mirror and it doesn't want to focus on me, it'll struggle and be soft. Occasionally it will get in focus but drop out again, I've also noticed it would actually focus on the mirror or window and not the subject past it. I thought it was a hardware issue so I got a replacement from Apple and I am still seeing these results. If I slide my finger over to the 1x just below 2.5x it is immediately much sharper and focused properly even at that slight digital zoom its better. Anyone else having these issues?

iPhone 12 Pro Max 2.5x Camera Doesn't Focus Good

yeah i got a whole new replacement and same problem. A fresh install meaning, reset it all and start as a new iphone? or restore from my icloud backup? I don't want to lose what I have in iCloud though.
Of course, I am a photographer, it's something I noticed from day one and thought a software update would fix, but many updates later and an entirely new iPhone it's still acting strange.
I still am at a loss at how to resolve this. I even erased the whole phone and started it new not from a backup to see if something was corrupt there. Still focuses poorly at 2.5x The easiest example to test it is if I'm standing to take a pic in the mirror and the focus is never sharp on the face, it tries to focus on the glass or a spec on the glass and struggles, if I adjust it down to 2.4x (digital zoom) it's way sharper, but that's not how it should work.
