I recently purchased a used late 2013 1TB 2.6GHz rMBP. I currently have it hooked up to a 27" monitor and planned on purchasing the new Dell IPS 4k monitor to use as a desktop.

However, I realized that since I am almost always using the MBP in clamshell mode, it probably makes more sense for to sell the MBP and just buy the retina iMac. My question is about the processor. The 2.6 GHz i7 in the MBP is sufficient for my needs. How does that compare to a 3.5GHz i5 processor in the entry riMac? is the 3.5 going to be faster in all applications that don't take advantage of hyperthreading? Or is an i7 generally better than an i5?
