I need some fresh thinkin/rotate mine a bit.

There are bits and pieces on this/other Mac Forums re: theimac 2.8 24"ATI Radeon 2600 card (late 2008/early 2009 vintage) vs the new 2.93 24" GT120 card imac.

Help me (ie what am I missing?) re what appears to be too big of a price difference ($400): $1299 vs $1699 for the new 2.93 imac 24".

I'm ready to purchase a 24" imac--wondering if the $400 should enter the decision equasion. My basic concerns are two:

1. I do a modest/increasing amount of photo editing and video work (ag development stuff) along with an increasing amount of academic staff work ( eg electronic chasing of source materials/fact checking, lecture note/outline prep, and on-line distance instruction.

2. "Likely" futuring issues (say 5 years out) with the 2.8 configuration (eg) upgrading of hardware/software.

Solid/timely performance is more of a concern than the price difference. Any help/best thoughts would be appreciated.

Well there's double the hard drive and double the ram. The debate is on about the graphics card. Here's a good thread 'GT 120 vs old 2600 Pro'
