Hey guys.

I was hoping to get some feedback on a decision I am currently facing.

I'm selling my mac pro early 08 and am planning on buying a 17" mbp in it's place.

I have been offered a trade of a 17" 2.8c2d with 8gigs of ram plus $500 ontop.

I was planning on holding out for a current i5 model but not sure how much difference there is considering the i5 will only have 4gb of ram.

I will be using this machine for audio. Mainly pro tools.

Any ideas or suggestions as to which route to take?

Cheers.

i5 is about 23% faster. What Mac Pro do you have? How much cash would you get off it? 17" i5 with 8GB is about 2500$ so if you can get over 3000$ from your Mac Pro, that trade is not worth it.

It's an early 08 8-core with 8gb of ram.

I live in Australia and am hoping to get close to 3000 for it.

I guess it would be best in the long run to get a current gen.

Thanks mate.
