The facts:
1) 2013 Macbook Pro Retina display randomly turned off and on for no reason that I can see
2) New 2015 Macbook Pro Retina #2 did the same after 2 weeks of owning it
3) New 2015 Macbook Pro Retina #3 did the same after 1 week of owning it
I had the same Macbook Pro Retina since 2013 until a month ago. While working on Photoshop, the display went black. I tried all rebooting methods and none worked, I also tried the basics like plugging it in, etc. Then it randomly, out of nowhere turned back on. This happened more than 9 times, turned off and turned on after about 2-4 hours - (without me doing anything to reboot it). I took it to the Genius bar, and they said that it was an issue with the graphics card. The repair was going to cost $950, so I opted to buy a new Macbook Pro Retina, this time the 15 in. with 2.5GHz Processor with 512 GB storage. I bought it about 3 weeks ago, and backed it up with an external hard drive. After 2 weeks, this laptop did the SAME thing! It would shut off in the middle of working on it. The weird thing about these two cases, both Macs, is that it wouldn't turn off completely. Meaning, when it would turn back on, it didn't have the sound it makes when you usually turn it on. Okay, so I took it back to the Genius Bar, and the guy who helped me said it may have been an issue with something transferred from my external drive(?) He exchanged it for a new one, and suggested that I import all my documents manually this time. So here is the weirdest part - I've had this 2nd new Macbook Pro for a week now, and haven't even moved ANY of my files onto it yet, documents of info - (3rd laptop) it's doing the EXACT SAME THING. Not only is it frustrating in general, but no one at the Genius Bar has been able to give me an answer as to why or how this could be happening. The only thing I can think is that there may be some sort of virus or malware on my external drive. Any help is MUCH appreciated! Thanks.
