If I chose to backup both my iPad and iPhone to the cloud on the same Apple ID, will both backups use up space on the same 5GB i'm given?

Or will the backups be separated by device and Storage?

5GB per Apple ID. I use the same ID with both my devices so when I go into the iCloud settings > Manage Storage on my iPad, I see both my iPad and iPhone and it breaks down each device's backup data.

Ok thanks, I know it will be different for everyone, but how big roughly is a backup?

Yes it's 5gb total and not per device. I bought extra thinking I could back whatever I wanted to the cloud like iDisk. I got my money back because I realized I'd never use that much. They still let me keep the extra storage tho.

Like you said, it will be a big difference between people.

Just as an example, I have 56 applications, 506 pictures and 110 videos on my iPhone 4. My camera roll alone is 5.9GB (obviously bigger than the free 5GB everyone gets) so I only backup my apps/app data from my iPhone to save space on my cloud. By doing this my iPhone backup is only 220MB.

It depends how much data your apps store.

My iPhone backup is ~1 gig and I have a lot of apps. My iPad's is 2.3 gig and from what I can tell thats inflated by things like zinio magazines, media etc.

You can turn off backups for individual apps if necessary.

Sounds like a good solution.

Looking at it, GarageBand says it needs over 100mb to back up date?

I only have about a 15 second song on there?

BBC Iplayer wants a bit chunk aswell?

If I uncheck these, it will only not backup the apps data right?

If I restore from backup it will install the apps again but without their data?
