I'm currently rocking my 2006 BlackBook with an SSD, but is there any way that I can throw away my broken ODD and replace it with another 9.5mm HDD?

Yes. You need an Optibay type thing. But you need one that connects to your Macbook's PATA port and converts it into a SATA port for the hard drive.

I did it once, worked perfectly. Optibay is the way to go. There are cheaper knock offs but dont have a link handy. I bought mine on Amazon.

Thanks Intell, but will the transfer rate be affected much when using a PATA-SATA converter?

When using a hard drive, you won't notice the difference. But with a SSD, you will. As the PATA bus is ATA/100 and is two thirds the theoretical maximum of the SATA I port in that Macbook.

I use SATA for the SSD, and PATA will be reserved for the HDD so hopefully I won't be able to notice the difference. Thank you :D
