As the title says.
2 bricked HomePod minis after trying to install HomePod software 18.1 beta 5.
After about an hour of my HomePod minis, not responding, I tried to reset them.
From the HomePod itself, the top light goes from white to red ... then vanishes.
No joy either restoring with my MacBook Pro M1 Pro running Sequoia 15.0: when connected, the HomePod mini does no even appear in the list of USB devices in the System Info app.
Before that, removed both HomePod minis from my Apple account.

Feels weird to tell Siri to turn off lights and nothing happens

Seem to have run out of options described here https://support.apple.com/en-us/108389
Anybody experiencing the same, or having success installing HomePod software 18.1 beta 5 on HomePod mini?

Did not show up in finder. But showed up using apple configurator. Restoring right now
Thanks.
I waited a bit longer and 1 appeared in Configurator (and System Info). Restoring now. Then the 2nd one.

Did it simultaneously on 2 Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 15.0 Sequoia.
One had me confirm connecting to the "USB accessory" 5 times, the other 0.

Had an error message at the end of the restoration process, saying that this device could not be managed with Configurator, but both HomePod are back to software 18.0 and I could add them to my home :) .

Probably one of the more simpler devices in their portfolio and they can never get it right. HomePod software always has been atrocious. There was a public release update a few years ago (12 or 13, can’t remember) that bricked OG’s. People were told to kick rocks if they were out of warranty.

Good thing this issue is being reported all over the tech media now. That seems to be when Apple takes action.

Tried updating to 18.1 today and it killed my homepod mini (1st gen). Non-stop rebooting/red circle that says its going to reset but never does.

Super annoying, trying to restore it now with a mac

My two HomePod minis have been “installing” for about ten hours. I tried restarting them. I tried resetting them. I tried unplugging them. They just go back to “installing.”

18.1 SW update: Also have the same "Installing" forever issue on two stereo HomePod Mini's.

Edit: After a very long "Installing" they finally updated.

Same with me. One of them finally updated late at night and the other updated about an hour after that.
