First problem!

I've been having problems with the right side of my menubar (called SystemUIServer in Activity Monitor), it often freezes a lot and gets the spinning wheel over things like, time, WiFi settings, bluetooth, and my quick log-in/out menu and spotlight, but not with Notification Center.

This causes the time to freeze up and I don't quite get an accurate description of the time as easily.

Second problem!
Back in 2010 (when I first got my machine), I would often use the dashboard calculator as opposed to the app or spotlight function. I would like to do this again. What stopped me from using it is when I click on a number (ex., '9') I get a double click input for some reason and get out the number '99'.

Could someone please help me with at least one of these problems?

I have a Late-2009 iMac, purchased August 2010.
Mac OS X MT 10.8 (upgraded from Lion, and upgraded from SL previously)
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 12 GB RAM.
