Having spent quite a few hours playing around with my 11 Pro Max today, I have to give props to 2 features that haven’t gained as much attention as the camera (which is also fantastic).
1. Spacial Audio
2. 1200 nit XDR screen
Both of these features have absolutely blown me away. I watched a couple video clips from movies I have with Dolby Atmos and WOW! The illusion of surround sound is pretty convincing even from these stereo speaks. Even movies without Atmos still shine. I tried the Cornfield scene from Interstellar (magical scene) and it sounded amazing... Not only amazing for the fact that it’s coming from a phone but also just amazing in general!
Then there’s that screen... 1200 nits for HDR highlights is bright! I watched scenes from John Wick 3, Interstellar and Passengers and all 3 movies looked almost 3D. The iPhone X and XS both do a great job of showing HDR but having that higher nit ceiling on the 11 Pro really makes more of a difference than I anticipated.
All in all, Apple has certainly made the iPhone 11 Pro into a fantastic device for watching videos on the go. The bigger screen on the Max just makes it even better.
