2 kernel panics in the last 2 hours

dont remember what i was doing the first time, second time i was importing music into itunes from CD

any ideas?

btw, first gen Santa Rose, 2.4, 4gb ram

Bad RAM maybe? Do a hardware test from the restore DVD.

ram is a possibility, its the same ram ive had since i got it about 15 months ago, i havent made any hardware changes anytime recently

how do you do hardware test with tiger disks using an intel mac?

Insert disk, restart holding c, then from the menubar choose hardware test.

Did you reset SMC and PRAM? Try that and let us know if you get anymore.

If my above advice doesn't work, I'd call Apple or take it in.

I think it's a software issue. Something is spawning off of launchd and screwing things up.

btw i think from what i read, it has something to do with accessing the DVD drive that casues it, but theres an option to turn that feature off when you first run the app so that the panics dont happen

so it wasnt just the kernel panicking… launchd screwed up his Backtrace which in turn caused kernel to panic!

i think an archive and install will fix this.

I did a little research, and it seems that running the combo updater for 10.5.5 has fixed it for others on Apple support forums. Maybe give that a try.

I've been kernel panic free since finding a tip here on the forums to turn off the network monitoring in istat. I connect and disconnect to 2 different servers everyday and with it on, I was having 205 KP a week. Might not be the case with you but worked wonders for me.
