Hi everyone - I have been nursing two problems with apple apps on my iTouch, and have given them my all - to no avail.
Background: iTouch was new in 2010 - model MC086ZP version 4.2.1
Synchs with iMac 8,1 OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and running latest iTunes 10.5.2 (11)
Problem 1 - won't store a backup of iTouch data
Device backup was working fine half a year ago.
Today, though here's what I did:
on iMac Snow Leopard 10.6.8 - run iTunes
turn off "open iTunes when this iPod is connected"
turn off "prevent iPods etc from synching automatically"
open "Devices PREFERENCES"
note date of backups : earlier on today, and 21st July 6 months ago
close "Devices PREFERENCES"
Connect iTouch
select my device in the left-hand pane of iTunes - right-click and select "Backup" - appears to run OK
open "Devices PREFERENCES"
note date of backups : today a few seconds ago, and 21st July 6 months ago
close "Devices PREFERENCES"
Note: the more recent backup from earlier today has disappeared from the list. Backup from 21/7 still there.
Disconnect device
Close iTunes
Open iTunes
enable "prevent iPods etc from synching automatically"
Reconnect iTouch - Synch takes place
open "Devices PREFERENCES"
note date of backups : today a few seconds ago, and 21st July 6 months ago
The backup made a couple of minutes ago has also disappeared.
I conclude that when you click on Backup, it does an over-write, ie a normal synch.
It did this in the last couple of versions of iTunes too.
Is it me? - Am I mad?
Conclude am not clinically mad, but iTunes backup is non-functional.
Does anyone have a fix please?
Now, Problem 2 : iCal events-synching with iTouch goes bonkers.
If I create an all-day event on the iTouch, and then synch with the iMac, the event now appears on two consecutive days on the iTouch.
If I create an all-day event on the iMac, and then synch with the iTouch, the event appears normally on both devices.
If I change the Time-Zone Support setting for one or other or both the machines the events jump about illogically/unpredictably when I synch, but always in duplicate on consecutive days on at least one or the other machine. All combinations of Time-Zone Support on/off on one/other/both machines produces some form of unwanted duplication. (NB I live in New Zealand @ GMT+12)
This means my best mate's birthday is now on 2 days, in two different months (how'd that happen? - no, don't answer that).
If I change an all-day event created on the iTouch to 9am on that day, it still jumps about. If, however, at the first attempt I set a time of day, then it never jumps about regardless of Time-Zone Support.
Does my iTouch need to see a shrink? - Half-sessions, or the full hour twice a week?
My wife just announced she gets the same problem on her iPhone G4, even without synching with her Windows PC / MS Outlook.
Does anyone have a simpler fix please?
