MICROSOFT COURIER

That is all. Although this looks like a great device, it definitely could have a lot more potential. I was hoping, as a student, to replace my notebooks (with a stylus) for technical classes like math with it and to carry all my books on it. But no, it won't do that.

EDIT: I know the courier is only a concept. But one could hope...

That isn't a real product. It's a rendering and a concept. It's a cool idea and I'm sure we'll see some apps out there in the coming months that try and duplicate it's functionality.

I'm also sure if this thing ever gets out of Balmer's dreams, it will not look or function anything like the concept video and it will cost 2x - 3x more than the iPad. At Least.

3rd party capacitive styluses (styli?) do exist and will let you jot down notes and drawings galore.

It will hold your books in PDF or ePub.

Mark my words: Microsoft slowly is leaving the place for Apple.

They are big time share holders of Apple and following the current technology trend there will be in 10-20 years no more interest for the internal components of the computer as it will only be 1 whole chip. It will all be about it's usability, potential and design.

Microsoft will limit itself to it's home softwares and internet softwares.
New players will come into the computer industry however.

I thought Microsoft sold the shares they purchased in 1997. Does anyone know?

1 word. Complicated. Stylus' are so 1997.. :)

Exactly! That is, unless you actually need to write something (like an equation) or draw a graph, etc., etc....

This thing could have easily included the handwriting recognition. You may not need it all the time, but when you do...well, you sure could use it.

Yes, they have. Either MS currently has no Apple shares at all or they own very insignificant amount of Apple shares.

The point is, is microsoft going to build these themselves, or is it just a concept that they want other manufactures to pick up.

Then of course, we'll have the problem of the courier being teeth pullingly complex, against the iPad being insultingly simple...

I will love watching movies on this.... the black stripe in the middle of the screen will make me squeal in joy.

It appears that 2010 will be the year of the tablet computer and to that end, many companies are readying their vision of what a tablet computer will be.

We've heard from apple and they made a tactical decision to make it less powerful then a laptop for what they perceive is good reasons.

Next up are the other vendors, and if MS comes out with something like the courier, it looks very Intriguing.

The issue is, do you squeeze in a desktop OS into a tablet form factor? Apple thought it wasn't a good idea and given the prior track record of tablet computers, many consumers felt that it wasn't a good fit.

I don't have an answer but given that we have to wait 60-90 days for apple's iPad (awful name) other vendors may announce theirs in that time period and we can see how apple stacks up against the competition.

IT DOESN'T EXIST

Yes it's nice. But the idea and implementation is still prototype (heck is it even in solid form yet?)

As for the HP SLATE which Microsoft have shown off... Well it certainly is a long way from what the video for courier promises....

I was expecting to see Masturbating Bear. That's two words right?

Err.... Google, I'm sure you'll find what your looking for ;)
