So recently I decided to replace the battery for my 2018 mbp 15' (service recommended message ~65% health).

I received the laptop today and I discovered that the "new" battery is manufactured 2019-06-17! The health is 100% with 0 cycles but I'm kinda worried that it will degrade much faster since its already a 2 year old battery.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

I don't see a problem. If there is something wrong with the battery, you will probably see it before 90 days is up. Just because it has been sitting, that doesn't necessarily mean its lifespan is suddenly less.

Why would you think Apple would have a battery for the 15" Mac dated 20 or 21?

hmm I took in my 16 inch in mid May because the 1 year warranty was about to end. They concluded that my battery has degraded too fast and did a warranty battery. I dont have apple care + so I was glad they didn't give me any spin. My new battery manufacture date shows Aug 2020 which is 9 months old. I never saw 100% on it. With health management on I see im at 92% health with 39 cycles. Looks suspicious.

I just turned the health off to see the change during the week but lets not fool ourselves. Battery aging is a thing. I have older MacBooks with battery in the 70s or 60s with a couple hundred cycles. I know Apple gives you better treatment if you buy their extended warranty versus if you try to get work done on a product that is about to expire. Just my experience.

Another thing is I had to wait like 10 days to get the battery replaced because Apple tech claimed they have to wait for the batteries to ship as that was the bottleneck with apple having some shortage. So the have a shortage but shipping delayed 9 month old batteries? Im talking about a popular apple store in Santa Monica, CA

I replaced two batteries in May: 2014 MacBook Pro and 2015 MacBook Pro. I don't know what the dates were but they didn't have them in stock and had to order from a warehouse. I wouldn't worry about it - I expect to get another 6-7 years out of these batteries.

I've seen a number of people needing to replace batteries one what I consider new systems (anything under four years). It's a big concerning.
