Can I use my Dell Lattitude D630 as a secondary monitor for my iMac? The port on my laptop is a VGA.

Is this possible? if so what kind of cord would I need?

An ethernet cable will allow me to transfer video from my iMac to my laptop?

I am looking to run lets say Word on my iMac and open Excel off my iMac, but viewable on my laptop.

An ethernet cable is not strictly necessary, only a network connection of some sort, including wireless. In my experience, it needs a wired connection to keep the frame rate high enough for the system to be usable.

Ok I see the link? So if I bought a new MBP I could use my iMac as a secondary screen with this program?

Yes. The second display can be any system that supports a VNC client. I've even used my iPod for the purpose, although the lag is pretty bad.

Does anyone have experience using it?

No. That's why I suggested it and am now giving you detailed information on what it can be used for.
