Hi all:
My 2 month old G5 iMac 2.1GHz (totally standard) has a display issue that it took me a while to notice. On the right half of the display there are areas where there is faint vertical banding and patches that are slightly darker than the surround. It looks for all the world like a "burn in" of an image, but this is a new LCD, and burn-in doesn't happen.

The attached image (I hope I got it sized and attached correctly - apologies if not) is a digicam image of part of the screen during start up. Scale-wise, the regular vertical banding on the right has a pitch of about 5mm. Contrast is enhanced to show the fault better. It is fairly subtle in normal use, but when blocks of colour are displayed, even finder windows that are mostly white, it shows itself when they are moved, as the bands remain stationary.

I've tried gently wiping the screen in case it is just a surface thing, but no success, and I'm reluctant to scrub too hard.

Anyone else seen this? Any ideas?

Thanks for all the great discussions that steered me toward this cool computer. I have very mixed feelings about Apple though. Despite ordering it before any were available in my country, within 2 months of delivery it has been superceded, albeit by the Intel version which I think is an unknown quantity. But I digress.

Regards to all, and thanks to those who take the time to respond.
