I'm about to buy my first mac and i'm still considering which hd to get.

200 GB 5.400 (it's free, but i tend not to get it)
250 GB 5.400 (+40 Euros with Student discount)
200 GB 7.200 (+70 Euros)

Yes, money is an issue, as I'm a student. Yes, storage capacity is an issue, as I don't want to carry an external around with me. And yes, I don't want my first mac to be too noisy :) I will do some photoediting and planning on doing a bit video stuff, but nothing too big and serious. Most likely I'm watching movies, editing photos and make some little video/music clips. Oh, and I have a 250GB external hard drive as well (which shall stay at home, nevertheless...)

Any recommendations on where I get the most for my money and needs?

Thanks for the help!

Me peronaly id go for the 200GB 7200 as you mention video/photo editing

yeh, but as i mentioned, that will be nothing too serious. I just want to be prepared for experience these kind of things on a non-professional level.

well i'll go with the low-end mbp, which is already at the top of what I want to spend. But, if it's worth it, I would somehow manage to spend the extra 40 or 70 Euros.

Ok the one that comes with it should be Ok for your needs, but if you can push it the 250GB will again be Ok ( nice to have extra space ) especially with movies

But if you can really push it the 7200 whould be better as you never know
you may end up doing a bit more on the video/photo editing side

choices choices choices

*g* yea it's always about choices...so each is worth its money then? i'll check my wallet... thanks :)

Would it help if you got a MB and max out the RAM and HDD?

no. i fell in love with the pro. i'm going to max out the ram anyway, in not too distant future.

I think for your needs, the 250GB drive is probably more suitable. But you can also consider taking the 200GB drive first and then upgrade the drive by yourself when you're financially less tight, though this would void the warranty.
