Long story short...my laptop was stolen July 9th. After a few weeks of searching by the police, it was located and returned to me. The person who stole it basically "rearranged" some things on it and deleted others. I was able to retrieve a lot of the 'missing' items after visiting my local Apple Genius Bar, but I am still having some strange issues with mail.
It appears that several of my old emails somehow dumped into my Inbox in multiples. Each message has upwards of 20 copies in my Inbox. From July 9th forward (to the date I visited the Apple Store), I was able to read the 1st copy of the message, move it to the appropriate folder, and delete the additional copies. Prior to July 9th, the messages that somehow were moved from individual folders into the Inbox, I am not able to open or move. Each email has the following message:
The message from [insert email address] concerning Dinner w/ the Tampa works has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
Any thoughts on what this means or what I can do?
I currently have 6,864 emails in my Inbox that I can't move or read!!
Something I did notice - a couple of folders were not deleted. A handful of messages that are in my Inbox that were in the untouched folders appear in both places, so I can delete the multiple copies from the inbox. It's the messages from the other folders that I don't have saved copies of. And there doesn't appear to be any rhyme and reason for which emails show up in the inbox - it's not the entirety of any one folder. It also only has emails from July 2008 forward (and I had emails saved from 2005).
My email is a regular earthlink pop account.
