2006 Mac Book with new display?

I plan on getting the new Mac Book with the new 24" display

Can I start out with the display using my 2006 Mac Book? is there a cable adapter for the new mini display cable?

Could swing the display ($$), and then wait for a while to get the new Mac Book, with the idea of retiring my 2006 Mac Book to the kids
