Was given a free 06 Mac Pro; wouldn't boot, no chime. Figured I'd spend as little as possible to see if I could get it running and maybe donate it or give it to a family member.
I replaced logic board, and while I had it disassembled, I put in two quad core Xeon's. 16 GB ram was $17 off Ebay, so figured that wouldn't hurt either.
Installed Snow Leopard. Updated firmware to 2,1
System boots fine, all hardware is intact and functioning. The issue I'm having is the power supply fan. Start computer up, get to desktop and it is quiet. 20 seconds or so after the desktop appears, the power supply fan begins to speed up until full, where it stays. Only the power supply fan does this; other fans and temps read fine using SMC Fan control.
SMC and PRAM have been reset multiple times.
I've removed RAM, reseated the CPU's, everything else I can think of. Anyone else have any ideas?
Thanks everyone.
Edit to add: When I received the computer, it would turn on, and all fans were operating normally. It would sit and run for as long as you wanted; you just would never get a chime or any kind of display.
