order # MA699LL/A
want to upgrade to SSD if possible. Any suggestions on what brand, size, etc. ?

I am a big fan of the Samsung SSD's - not to say others SSD's are not just as good - I just have more experience with them and they have always been a good choice for me

Something like an evo 860 "on sale" at amazon and also might be a good idea to grab an enclosure with it? - like this combo?

I would recommend a Crucial BX100 BX500. Very inexpensive model, but from a top tier brand. (Crucial is the retail arm of Micron, which is one of the few actual memory makers in the world.)

It is a DRAM-less model, but performance is quite decent, and it is more than enough for your ancient MacBook.

BX100 has not been sold for a couple of years.
Current Crucial model is the BX500, and remains a good value.

Beginner's question. In my thread title I included (EMC 2121). Does this distinguish my Late 2006 from others?
.

No, all "Late 2006" MacBooks have the EMC 2121 marking. For the owner, it is just another way to determine which model you have. If the EMC number is different, then it is not a Late 2006 model.

Thanks. I asked because somewhere on this site I saw someone say there were 15? different versions of the A1181. Is it the order number that makes a difference? Mine is MA699LL/A.

About to start a rescue attempt. Late 2006 Macbook (A1181. MA699LL/A). New at this but I've done reading from several sources. I also have a new SSD, new Ram, XP install disc, OS X disc. Also external HD if needed. Anything else I might need? Thanks.
