I have a Dec 2006 MBP. It will not boot and when I go to disk utl. it says bad boot file can not be repaired back up data and reinstall.
1. How do I find my pictures to back up
2. Can I do a clean install with out Apple store
3. How do I reinstall from a USB as my Super drive is on the blink of dying (I know I need a new one just no money)
Thanks for all you help in advance

To try retrieving your data you could try Target Disk Mode. To reinstall, you need the install DVDs or a retail copy of Mac OS X if it has been upgraded or you wish to run a newer version. If the SuperDrive is on the fritz, you can use Target Disk Mode in reverse, with the functioning Mac as the target machine to use the optical drive in it to read the install DVD.

Thank Jedi, I will try. Also I have been trying to reinstall with a USB drive and everything is fine excep it says Disk is locked. What can I do to unlock it.
Thanks
