So, who's doing it?

I'm assembling a team at my school, and we're going to take the festival by storm. :)

Does anyone know if I can see last years entries so I can inspire my team?

Link.

I'm doing it, still working on my team. I need a few more people.

I was also wondering about submissions from last year...

same here....im pretty much gonna be a winner with the story i have....now i just need an hd camera.....

Oh it has to be an HD camera?

no.

Apple said:
* Size: 320x240 (or 320x180 for 16x9 projects)
* Video Compression: H.264; Quality: High; Frame Rate: 24; Key Frame Rate: 150; Bitrate: 600 kbits/sec; Frame Reordering: yes; Encoding Mode: multi-pass
* Sound: AAC; Sample Rate: 32.000kHz; Channels: Mono or Stereo; Bit rate: 48 kbps
* Prepare for Internet Streaming: Fast Start - Compressed

so having an HD camera would be useless.. DV is more than adequate.

*sigh* You know that they will give you elements that you have to incorporate into the story and you aren't allowed to have a story pre-written right? The whole point is to be able to come up with a story centered around the criteria they give you. Having a story done before hand won't help you. As far as HD goes, there isn't really a point to it. The submission must be in a very small format and IF you win you will still only have it in DVish size. That being said I am filming mine in 1080p at 24F so as to increase the clarity of my overall picture and give me a wider color gamut to play with.

I'm shooting mine in HD as well, with an FX1. Not so much for the HD rez, as someone pointed out, it's gonna be reduced to the size of a postage stamp, but for native 16:9.

Anyone else here Film majors?

I'm thinking about it... I don't know how much time I'll have that weekend. I need to sit down and learn Avid soon so I can move up to Asst Editor next season. That is the weekend I was planning to start working on that...

Oh, native 16:9 doesn't give too much if you're still compressing down to 320 x ***. If I enter, I'll shoot in 4:3 on my DVX and crop it.

fart: I was a film major, but I graduated in June. Working in reality TV now *sigh*.

Only currently enrolled high school or college students may enter.

true, but I figure if it goes anywhere, they'll probably want at least a DV rez copy- although I highly doubt we'll get into the finals. Should be a fun weekend though

I'm assembling a team, a few buddies of mine are in it with me. We're all film majors/vfx-heads.

To the original poster: Did you find the page yet? You can view all of last year's videos here.

There are a few gems in there, but also an awful lot of stinkers.

I'm pretty excited for the whole thing, seems like there will be a lot more people involved this year (with record-setting Mac sales, and all).

Yay, after 17 hours I finally finished and entered my teams film!!! Well, I'm exhausted after all that work. It was fun though.

YAY!!!

Hey,

A friend of mine and I made up a 2 person team to do a 3D animated video for the competition. Unfortunately I ran into a slew of problems when putting the animation together with the audio and was not able to submit the film by the deadline. Oh well, but I finished shortly after going to sleep and thinking of a resolution to the problem. If only I had thought of it at the time. Here's a link if you want to take a look.

I'm thinking about redoing it in the future as it didn't turn out exactly as I hoped, but still neat anyways.
