I owned a 2007 era MacBook which recently died from what appears to be a power circuit issue. I tried an SMC reset, but with it being so far out of warranty, and me already itching for a new MacBook I left it in a drawer and went on with life.

Cue yesterday when I spotted it again, and decided it would be worth the time to ask around and see if I could, in anyway, salvage the MacBook with what ti has in any useful way, or if the machine is entirely dead weight just because of the power circuit.

You could try to use the screen as an external screen once you get the new macbook. you just need to know some stuff about the right cables .
