Its an a1278 maybe 2008, sorry. I can't check the exact model (it has Ubuntu install so there is no About this mac) :)

Looks like my 2008 MacBook (not Pro).

Read up on how to check the display cable connections. iFixit has instructions on how to replace it and you can do that if the connections check out OK.

BTW I'm running Sierra on mine with the "unsupported" method shown in these forums.
