I have a 2007 MacBook. It has been working fine, although it occasionally wouldn't wake up after putting itself to sleep.

Yesterday it put itself to sleep and wouldn't wake up. I held down the power button to turn it off. Now when I try to start it the white light on the front comes on, but nothing else happens. If I hold it close to my ear I can hear a very gentle hum and a couple of faint scratchy noises just after pressing the power button, then nothing. The front light is on constantly, not pulsing.

Any ideas?

Thank you

MacBook 2007

Follow the instructions in the link in my sig.

To start with:

Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Flopticalcube - thank you!

Followed the instructions and have managed to start up.

Do you know what the problem was or what might have caused it?

I'd like to avoid it in the future if possible.
