2007 MBP and recent fan issue

My mid-2007 MBP has been running perfectly for the past 2.5 years, but in the last couple of weeks it's been running the fan every half hour or so, even when I'm just checking email or reading.

I did notice the fan problem shortly after installing Carbonite backup. Although even when Carbonite is in idle I'm getting the fans.

Is this just a sign of an aging computer or is there something here that I might be able to fix?
