I have the limited collector's edition late 2008 13" Aluminum MacBook.

Yes the one without the Pro display, Firewire, integrated longer battery that all came out in the following June revision.

I wasn't sure about this, but I think this is the first revision with the Mini DisplayPort and so at the time it might not have incorporated Audio and Video through the connection. Does anyone know?

I am thinking of selling my iMac and getting a 27" Display and making this my main Mac, but if I need to run a separate cable, not sure I wouldn't want to sell this too and upgrade to a 13" MBP.

Only newer Macs (2010-) supports the audio through MiniDP AFAIK

Thanks, confirmed it through Applecare that my MB does not support audio.

FYI, not sure how the speakers are on the 24" or the new 27" that is coming out, however, the display does not have an audio out jack, so if you have a desktop speaker system that you connect, you can't leave it plugged into your display, that would be another cable to plug and unplug each time you connect your machine.
