I'm looking at purchasing a laptop to use recreationally (read: watch movies, listen to music, surf the internet, office) and have a couple options. I don't want to shell out $2,000 for a rMBP when I have no real benefit from it. I have found an early 2008 17" MBP (new battery) for $475 locally on craigslist. 2.5 GHz C2D, 250GB HD, 4GB ram, 1680x1050 excellent condition and was wondering how much of a performance hit am I going to take compared to a base 2011 MBP/MBA?
I know for my use, anything will really get it done, but I don't want to sit and stare at a computer while it crawls to do basic tasks or stutters to get something done. Which would I be better off getting? Does anyone have any experience upgrading from a computer like this?
