2008 2.16ghz core 2 duo vs 2015 1.1ghz dual-core m3

What should I expect in terms of operations and speed?

I run Reaper DAW to compose/produce demo songs with 4MB ram. The new MacBook comes with 8MB, but from what I've read, processor speed is more valuable than ram.

2009 Macbook Pro 2.3 ghz 1509 Single core 2505 Multicore
2016 macbook m3 1.1 ghz 2847 Single core 5278 Multicore

It will seem even faster than 2X, because the rMB also has much faster SSD and RAM.

True, I didn't even think of that. And USB-2 is slower/less-reliable for recording.
