Hey everyone,

I have a pretty mint condition early 2008 Black MacBook. For some reason though in "about this mac" it shows up as white. Is that normal? Is there any way to fix this? Thanks!

Did the black A1181 MacBook ever show up in About This Mac as black on OS X 10.7+? As far as I can remember, I don't think it ever did.

But if it did, then what I can surmise is that the OS was originally installed on a white MacBook (before the hard drive was taken out of it and placed in this MacBook), or was cloned from a OS X install on a white MacBook using a utility like SuperDuper! or CCC (Which is how I've gotten OS installs running on the black MacBooks in my collection). The answer then would be to either reinstall the OS, or hack the About This Mac image (similar to how others have hacked the About This Mac screen in Mojave).

Could be a white MacBook logic board replacement…

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I think they all showed up as white, regardless of what color the machine is. i should pull mine out if storage and check (with a USB keyboard, as my unchipped top case sadly has a dead keyboard/trackpad).

My Blackbook is exactly the same and that has a fresh install of 10.7.5 so I think it’s down to the image used in the “About This Mac” panel.
