I've installed Windows XP on my recently wiped 2008 iMac in order to play a few old games I have, but the ATi video drivers leave much to be desired. These are the drivers included on the Snow Leopard DVD as part of the Bootcamp drivers. The poor quality of the drivers is evident right away, there are notable corruptions in the Luna theme. Weird lines appear in the sidebar of Explorer windows, glitched shadows under buttons, 16-bit folder icons are used for no reason.

This is noticeable in the games too, the performance is not even on par with a 2006 iMac with the 128MB card. In OS X the 2008 smokes it. There isn't even an ATi control panel installed. Basically makes it useless. I notice that if I turn down the graphics acceleration it gets rid of the artifacts, but the performance is even worse.

Anyone ever played around with XP on Bootcamp with these old Macs? Any clues as to what to do with regards to drivers? Often the Mac GPUs are rebranded versions of Windows cards so I have no clue what to look for in terms of alternative drivers, especially at this point. I may try Windows 7 on this machine, but I prefer XP for this purpose. Otherwise this machine might go.
