Picked up an early 2008 20" iMac for next to nothing ($140) to use in the guest room as an extra/backup/utility machine.
Intel 2.4 C2D, 6GB RAM, 250GB running 10.11
Everything works great except I noticed some dull vertical streaks on the screen. Not a huge deal and definitely more noticeable on certain colored backgrounds than others, but an annoyance I'd like to fix nonetheless.

I'm pretty fearless about taking Macs apart and I have all the tools, so I'd basically like to get some opinions on what the most likely culprit is. Inverter? LCD?

Parts are cheap for these machines on Ebay, so I'd like to get ideas on where to start. Thanks!View attachment 672687 View attachment 672687

I have a 2008 2.0 C2D 2007 20" imac (a1224)

these models seem prone to LCD or backlight failure.
Seems very coomon as they get older from what I read online and seen on many refurbisher sites.

I have a friend who wants one like mine but for his budget most have this issue.

I'm a relative new mac user so sure other will know more than me.

These units are CCFL not LED backlit so could be screen.
