2008 iMac won't start up

Good evening, When I try to start it up it only stays at the apple with the loading thing under it. I tried to boot in safe mode and nothing happens. I tried everything from trying to boot from usb, but my hard drive doesn't have enough space. I also tried to delete the hard drive, but it said something about it being locked. What are my options?

Have you booted up from a Snow Leopard Disc? What does it say when you try to erase the HD?

kick it. Nah kidding. Do a PRAM reset. command+option+p+r hold it down while booting see what happens.
