While reading up on the Early 2008 Mac Pro before mine shipped, Macworld wrote that "The eight-core 2.8GHz system lagged in some of our tests, results we attribute to its somewhat sluggish Seagate hard drive." referring to the OEM 320GB. When my 2008 Mac Pro arrived I was happy to see it's a Western Digital instead. (always preferred them over seagate... far quieter)

I also understand that if you order the 1TB option, it's a Hitachi. It seems like Apple is going with nearly every company out there for hard drives. This poll is just to see what you folks have gotten in yours.

Seagate 320. Added 2-500 and 1-750 WD drives. I haven't noticed the ST being any louder...I can't hear any of 'em unless I put my ear next to the case.

2008 Mac Pro: What brand hard drive came with yours?

Mine came with a Western Digital 320GB. I've also installed the Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB 7200 rpm Drive in the second drive bay. Honestly I have not really noticed a speed or sound difference between the two. I used Carbon Copy Cloner to move the OS to the Seagate and haven't really noticed a difference. I did hear the Seagate make some noise when I was booting, or running some heavier apps. The only noise I really seem to hear out of the tower is the GPU fan on my Radeon HD 2600 XT. Still haven't made up my mind whether I want to swap that out for the X1900 yet though.

320GB WD

Haven't had any problems with it so far...added another 320GB WD and a 640GB WD

*note: my MacBook came with a Hitachi drive...and my friends PowerMac G5 came with a Seagate
