I have a 2008 MBP and last night, I tried to wake it from sleep, however all I saw was a black screen. I assumed it was just a random glitch, so I forced it to shut down by holding the power button. However, when I tried to turn it on, it would turn on briefly (superdrive makes that noise when you turn on your Mac/bring it out of sleep, sleep light turns on, and hard drive starts to spin up) but then it would turn off a few seconds later.

I tried the following:
-Run off just AC adapter
-Run off 2 different batteries
-Reset SMC
-Test for bad RAM by using one stick at a time (I don't have my original RAM with me, so I can't test to see if both sticks are bad)

My MBP won't even reach the gray screen, so I can't boot to single user mode, boot from CD/external hard drive, or zap PRAM. From what I gather, it sounds like logic board failure, but my MBP still charges and recognizes when it's missing RAM (tried to boot without any RAM and it makes a loud beeping sound).

I'm thinking my GPU (I have the insidious 8600m GT) might have killed my logic board. My MBP is no longer and warranty, and since I can't boot it to have the Genius Bar tech's test it for a faulty GPU, I'm afraid they'll deny me a free repair.

Anyone have any ideas on what else it could possibly be?
