2008 Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter not working with rMBP?

I ordered the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter when I got my late 2008 MBP back in 2008, and it worked without any problems with my HDTV.

This morning I decided to connect my new rMBP with the same adapter but I didn't get any signal to the HDTV. Is the first generation adapter not compatible with Mini DisplayPort over Thunderbolt?
