Hi All,
Got a 2009 MBP 13inch, started getting a high pitched whine from the fan recently. I did a little TLC to clean it recently, as it's been pretty dusty in there, and has been running ludicrously loud when running Pro Tools (makes it tricky to mix on my monitors). Ran absolutely fine for about a month after, much quieter (so much dust in there) but it's recently started making a whine, on top of the inrush of air. I used compressed air to get the dust out (from a distance, through the fan intake as I'd seen advice to do) so I don't know if this would have run the fan too fast, got rid of any lubricant or anything like that. I've got some bearing oil that I use for my turntable if I need to put a drop in.
Warranty is long gone, didn't get applecare at the time (I know) so I'm pretty much down to doing as much as I can myself. Fairly happy to pull it apart if I need to. It's definitely related to the fan, as it ramps up with the fan, and I can hear it whine down when I put the machine on sleep/off
