Hi all,

Has anyone had any experience with an early 2009 17" MacBook Pro (MacBookPro5,2) and a SATA III (6Gbps) SSD?

I've read about some issues with the 15" and 13" models forcing SATA I (1.5Gbps) due to some SATA cable funkiness. Also, OWC's Electra 6G line apparently forces SATA I with the MacBookPro5,x line (they specifically call out the 15" model, but mention the MacBookPro5,2 model identifier). Otherwise, there doesn't seem to be any solid info on the 17" model (which, IIRC, did not experience the same SATA cable issues as the 15" and 13" ones).

Since most of the newer SSD's coming out now use SATA III (6Gbps), I was wondering if the drive will run at SATA II (3 Gbps), the max supported by the Nvidia chipset, or if it will force SATA I.

Yes, I am aware that SATA III should be backward compatible and automatically switch to SATA II if connected to a chipset that only supports SATA II. But I have seen some anecdotal evidence saying that it will drop down to SATA I only for this particular MacBook Pro series. I want to know if someone has specifically experienced this scenario.

Thanks!
