2009 iMac as a monitor?

I understand it may be possible to use my iMac as a monitor, theoretically, what I want to know is if anyone here HAS done it with success?

Before I get bashed for something that seems silly. I am planning on buying a monster PC for gaming, but still want the best of both worlds as in using OSX for everything ELSE. I have used my 2009 iMac for gaming with WoW for 3 years now and with the advent of D3 the game is playable but the graphics are tired looking.

I don't want to give up my iMac yet, I just don't want to have to invest in a new monitor and am hoping I can get the iMac to connect to this new machine I have in mind.

Anyone here done this successfully?

If you have a 27" iMac, it will work.

Target Display Mode can be used with all 27" iMac models:

• Using a 27-inch iMac (Late 2009 or Mid 2010) as an external display
• iMac (Mid 2011): Target Display Mode does not work with Mini DisplayPort cable
