I came home to a tripped circuit breaker for the whole house.

Everything turned back on fine except the Mini which turned on with the fan full on.

I turned it off and tried an SMC reset (actually, a whole bunch of them).

The power button doesn't work at all - no chime, no display.

An SMC reset doesn't seem to work at all.

If I hold the power button down while turning on the mains power, the fan comes back on full, but still no display or chime.

Any ideas?

I am a (reasonably) competent PC tech :) but this one has me stumped.

I also live in the wilds of Borneo, so suggestions like Genius Bar, etc. is not going to fly. No Apple store on this island, I am left to my own devices.

I am confident of the PS, but that's as far as it goes.

Any ideas?

This happened to me yesterday. Also from 2008 timeframe mac mini running snow leopard. customer had plugged in a usb cable with an ipad that was pretty messed up at the computer end. It successfully initialized the ipad, synced, backed up. I clicked the icon to remove the device and instantly, mac turned off, screen went black, fan turned on and the power button did nothing.
