So here is my scenario. I own a mid 2009 Quad Mac Pro. I never had any problems with it. I have been using an Insignia 2.1 speaker system with it and that has worked out fine with me before, until today. Some how, my Mac Pro is not recognizing the speakers and just plays off the internal speaker. I tried using the same audio cable that was going into my Mac Pro to my iPod and that works fine. Is it a dead rear audio port? I suppose the next step would be trying the front audio port but that still seems odd that the port died all of a sudden. I hope, with the forum's help, to resolve this issue without going to the Apple store as it is fairly far away and I have had way to many problems there. I rather that be a last resort. Thanks in advance for the help.

Update 1: Well, tried using my speakers on the front audio out and it worked fine. I'm starting to think that this is a hardware issue pertaining to the rear audio out.
Update 2: Turns out that the audio in system preferences was switched to internal speaker. Problem solved.
