Just a quick one, I'm pretty sure the answer is going to disappoint me.

Is the 2009 Mac Pro optical Drive SATA?

I could only find speed specs on Apples site, and I have a Light Scribe drive thats what I believe to be IDE, or PATA:confused: or whatever the first Mac Pros have.

Well, I ordered and received an optical drive from OWC, it does NOT work in the 2009 Mac Pro's... So, who sells a drive that does?

Which one?

I noticed the Quad 2.66 I had access to used one of the godforsaken Hitachi-LG drives. Ew ew ew.

I don't know why a Pioneer DVR-216 wouldn't work, though.

Hardware Test

Question to proud owners: Is something like Apple Hardware Test CD/DVD included?

Try and stay on topic here folks... What optical drives work with the new 2009 Mac Pro's? I'm not seeing any at OWC.

Let me get this straight... You'd rather have a laptop drive in a Xeon Workstation.

A laptop drive... that reads ten times slower.

A laptop drive... that you couldn't replace for anything and couldn't add your own secondary drive of.

Buy an iMac?

Why? So you can have a slower, less reliable, less compatible, and more expensive drive?

Leave the slot loading BS to the consumer toys, the grown ups need drives that don't suck.

:p i was kidding. you can put down your torches and pitchforks now.

Yeah, I actually meant to post it to "unboxing", but i'd rather not double-post now. It is in some sense related to optical drives though.

btw, which optical drive model you received from OWC didn't work with 09MP?

P.S. And are you sure the issue is with the model, not the individual copy?

Newegg and pretty much everybody else. Most new optical drive have been SATA for the last year, including just about all Blu-Ray.

i'm just upset that it's not slot-loading.

Nobody has made a slot loading desktop optical drive for a while now. I don't blame them either. Slot loaders may be pretty looking, but they are prone to jamming (which my iMac is currently in the shop for) and will not take mini optical discs. Tray loaders don't have either problem.
