Quick question, stupidly left my MBP power adapter at work and it's pretty flat. Will the adapter from my 2009 MacBook charge it safely?

Yes, as long as it doesnt have exposed wires or something.
I'm guessing they are both 65 watt? It should say on the brick.

Only if they are the same Voltage. If you use a different Output V you can damage the battery life.

Not true. Using a weaker adapter than the one designed for your MBP will not harm it in any way. It will simply take longer to charge it.

Your 13" MBP can use any of the three magsafe adaptors currently available. The 85w (which comes with the 15" and 17" models), the 65w (which comes with the 13" models), and even the 45w unit that comes with MBA's will work. I have all three in my household, and I use them alternately with my Macbook White 13". They will not shorten your battery life nor blow up your battery, although the 45w will get hotter under heavy use, and will take longer to charge your battery.
