2009 MBP 15" 1286 will not boot up

It was working fien and then one day it just would not boot.
When try to power it, it looks like it is trying to boot up.
There is some noise and green light, but it never boots.

Is this a known fault or what would be the troubleshooting steps..

It could be anything from battery to whole logic board and a multitude of things in between. If you have a time machine backup then there are many guides to how to boot from an external online, if this works then it's your hard drive.
