Hi guys. I'm new here, and to repairing macs generally speaking, so i apologize if this is obvious. I'm not sure what to search for here to answer my questions. I've gathered bits and pieces from various google searches, but they seem to stop short. I'll try to be clear as possible.

Computer: A1297

I tried to install a new Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD in a 2009 MBP 17 Inch.

1. Made Yosemite boot USB. This seems to have been loaded/partitioned properly.

2. Installed SSD per video instructions with a phone repair tool kit. Everything looked good.

3. Closed it up

4. Put USB in and powered computer up

5. At the screen that allows me to select which drive to install Yosemite on, the new SSD does not appear. Only the thumb drive appears.

6. Power down, restart in recovery mode. This takes a while but I'm able to get as far as the disk utility. Disk utility indicates new SSD is there, is in the same format as the USB (the journaled parameter, if i remember). It's clearly being detected.

7. Computer tries to check if its eligible for Yosemite - error. Tells me to try again, but no dice.

8. Restart, back to original not-detecting mode.

Note: i did not attach the SSD prior and copy my old stuff over as I do not want any of the old stuff. I wanted to start fresh with a new HD.

How can I get it to recognize the new SSD on the non recovery start up? HELP!
