I have a 2009 17" MBP that is not responding to power button presses. I have tried:
  • Holding the power button for ~20 seconds, then pressing the button normally, and all sorts of variations of having the magsafe adapter plugged in or not.
  • PRAM and SMC reset.
  • Praying to the apple gods while sacrificing a dove on the alter of macintosh

Response from the laptop:
Absolutely nothing. Maybe it's become a nihilist.

Laptop status:
Laptop was dead and had been in a closet for quite a few years. Laptop was charged, and went through a normal charging cycle. Pressing the battery level button shows that the battery is now fully charged. All hail to the battery lords above.

Anything else I can do to try to revive this old workhorse?
